Several heavy maintenance items (timing belt, spark plugs, coolant, etc) were due at 100,000 miles. You need to know if the hard to crank problem is setting new codes - and you won't know if SES is constantly on. I'd suggest you get the EVAP codes fixed (new gas cap?). My preferred additive is Chevron Techron but many others will probably do the same thing. Regarding bad gas - you could try one of those fuel additives available at parts stores or Walmart. If yes, it indicates a problem in the fuel tank. I believe the value is loss of no more than 14.5 psi over 5 minute period.Īnother way to see if loss of fuel pressure is issue is to turn key ON (not start) for a few seconds (two) - then turn key OFF - then back ON - wait a few more seconds and then see if engine cranks. You could have a mechanic monitor fuel pressure at the fuel rail test port to see if the permitted leak-down rate is exceeded. However, filling it up twice since then hasn't improved the situation.Īny ideas what could be the problem here? I've had it suggested that I change out the fuel filter, but as far as I can tell, that's supposed to be in the gas tank and isn't replaceable without replacing the whole fuel pump assembly. We thought that the issue might be bad gas, as it only started after we filled up at a gas station that we don't usually frequent. At the very least, those two issues aren't supposed to cause any problems with the car starting as far as I know. The check engine light is on, but the only codes I get are P0442 and P0455 (both evaporation emission control system leaks) and have been on a while since I was under the impression it was the gas cap's fault. I haven't noticed any other issues or loss of power with the car once it gets running. After the first attempt, the car starts fine, and will usually start fine again if the car has been turned off for a few minutes. My wife's 07 Saturn Vue (with 129k miles on it) has been giving us fits the last couple of weeks whenever we try starting the car, the first attempt is either unsuccessful or starts weakly after several seconds.
